Gosforth Colliery, Dronfield

Gosforth Colliery, DronfieldMines Inspectors reports for 1896 show that the colliery was being operated by the executors of Mrs. Jane Sheard (Dronfield) and employed 95 underground workers and 35 surface workers. Gosforth Colliery was managed by Mr. John Morte and the undermanager was Mr.John Mosley. The colliery predominantly mined the Silkstone seam. (extracted from the excellent 'A Miners Son' website)
