The Opening of Edmonton Arts Centre and Arts Week, October 1957 (master)The exterior and interior details of the restored building are recorded, including its elaborate timber frame. Attention is paid to where woodworm was eradicated. The priest's hide hole is revealed, and the cold storage chamber is filmed. On the opening day of Arts Week, various visitors are filmed arriving, entering the building and exploring its rooms. An official car delivers the macebearer, the Mayor and Mayoress of Edmonton and the Chairman of the council. While the VIPs examine artworks and handicrafts displayed on the House's walls, their chauffeurs converse outside. The Mayoral party leave, but other visitors keep arriving. The camera records some of the arts and crafts on display, and the presence of the 'Edmonton Hundred Historical Society', 'The New Word Recorded Music Society', 'Edmonton Film Society' and some choral and dramatic groups.
