To save skiers the arduous work of plodding uphill after the exhilarating swoop down, the ski lift is installed at St Moritz, the Swiss resort. This 'lift' takes skiers to the top with the minimum of effort.

Mr George William Owen, a taxi driver of Hornsey, London, has started a 3000 mile trip; he is taking Mrs Jolly, a New Zealand woman and her two daughters Rose (19) and Violet (17) on a three weeks road tour round England, Wales and Scotland. Two years ago Owen picked up a casual fare, a Mr Runciman, also a New Zealander, who Mr George William Owen, a taxi driver of Hornsey, London, has started a 3000 mile trip; he is taking Mrs Jolly, a New Zealand woman and her two daughters Rose (19) and Violet (17) on a three weeks road tour round England, Wales and Scotland. Two years ago Owen picked up a casual fare, a Mr Runciman, also a New Zealander, who "charted" his taxi for a trip round England. It was because of the report of that trip that appeared in the New Zealand papers that Mrs Jolly, his present fair, got in touch with him. Owen picked up his passengers at their hotel in Bayswater, and started off for the South coast and Lands End. Eight special school holiday trains have been used by the Great Western Railway to bring boys and girls to London after the breaking up of schools for the Christmas vacation. The ordinary services were augmented with 200 additional coaches.
